WEEK SIX PREVIEW: Women's Basketball Vies For Fifth Win In Its Last Six Games At Calumet-St. Joseph On Tuesday Night

Chicago, Ill. - The Roosevelt women's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Tuesday night as the Lakers travel across the border to take on Calumet College of St. Joseph at 5:30 p.m. The contest is the first of two games this week for Roosevelt, which has won four of its last five games. The Lakers will play their final home game off the month on Saturday versus Grace College at 1:00 p.m. at Attack Athletics.

THE WEEK THAT WAS:
The Roosevelt women's basketball team continued its winning ways, posting a 95-67 victory over Midway College in the Lakers only game last week. Sophomore Erin McCaslin scored 18 points, all of which came in the second half, to pace Roosevelt's offensive attack. Sophomore Maria Tamburrino posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Lakers have now won four of their last five games to level their season record at 5-5.


SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:

Calumet-St. Joseph
The Crimson Wave are 2-8 on the season following an 86-72 overtime loss at home to Trinity International on Saturday. The two teams went back and forth throughout regulation, but the Trojans dominated the final five minutes, blanking CCSJ, 14-0. The Crimson Wave were led by Rebecca Arredando's 29 points and 14 rebounds. The 5-foot-9 forward is CCSJ's most potent offensive and defensive threat, leading the team with over 15 points and seven rebounds per game. The Crimson Wave are under the direction of Christina Schmidt, who is in her fifth season at the helm of the program.
All-Time Versus CCSJ:
Roosevelt is 1-0 all-time versus Calumet-St. Joseph, taming the Crimson Wave 62-50 in the consolation finals of the 2010 Saint Xavier Christmas Tournament on Dec. 29. Peggie Parhas scored 21 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the win, with Casey Davis adding 12 points and eight boards.
Grace
The Lancers are ranked No. 20 in the most recent NAIA Division II poll and enter with a record of 8-3, including a 2-1 mark in the Mid-Central College Conference. Grace will be playing its second game in as many days when it takes on Roosevelt with a Friday night contest versus IU Northwest also on the slate. Grace is led by 6-foot-1 senior Danielle Boykin, who is averaging 12.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Juaniece Jackson adds 10.5 points per outing. The Lancers are guided by Scott Blum in his eighth season at Grace.
All-Time Versus Grace

The Lakers are 0-1 all-time versus the Lancers, dropping a 93-79 decision last season on Dec. 11 at the Orthopedic Capital Center. Grace shot a blistering 58 percent from the field in the contest. The loss spoiled a career-high and a Roosevelt single-game school record 30-point scoring performance from Alexia Tann. Casey Davis also scored 18 points.


GAME NOTES:
THE LAKERS ARE ON A ROLL:
Roosevelt has been on a roll its last five games, going 4-1 during the stretch. Sophomore Maria Tamburrino has led the team's surge, averaging team bests of 14.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while shooting 52 percent from the field and 82 percent from the free throw line. Senior Alexia Tann has found her rhythm since returning to the hardwood after a missing a majority of last season with an ACL injury. Tann has averaged 9.4 points and 4.1 assists per outing with an almost 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. The Lakers have controlled the boards of late, posting a +6.2 rebounding margin in the last five games.
FORTY-FOR-FORTY:
Sophomore Maria Tamburrino heads into Tuesday night's game at Calumet-St. Joseph as the only Roosevelt player to start every game in the program's history. The Jacobs High School product has started all 40 games the Lakers have ever played. Tamburrino's performance has been as good as ever. She posted her fifth career double-double in her last outing with 11 points and 11 rebounds versus Midway College on Dec. 3. For the season, Tamburrino is averaging 9.2 points and a team-best 7.8 rebounds per game.
SECOND HALF SURGE:
Sophomore Erin McCaslin had a stellar second half in the Lakers' win over Midway College on Dec. 3. The Maple Valley, Wash., native scored all of her game-high 18 points in the final 20 minutes, going 6-for-12 from the field and 4-for-7 from behind the three-point line. McCaslin now owns a team-high 18 three-pointers made this season and boasts 91 career three-pointers in just 38 games played.
PEGGIE'S BACK:
Roosevelt's 4-1 surge in its last five games coincides with the return to the lineup of senior Peggie Parhas. She is averaging 14.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.6 assists per game through five outings. In the first five games of the season, the Lakers averaged just 64.6 points per outing and were shooting 34 percent from the field. In the five games since Parhas' return, the team is scoring at a 82.0 points per game clip and shooting 42 percent from the field.
AMONG THE LEAGUE LEADERS:

Roosevelt has several players among the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference's Division I statistical leaders. Sophomore Casey Davis ranks second in the league in scoring at 16.0 points per game, while also rating second in free throw percentage (83%). Senior Alexia Tann is second in assists (4.0 apg). Sophomore Maria Tamburrino ranks third in rebounding (7.8 rpg) and sophomore Kiara Towles rates fourth in field goal percentage (56%).
