NEWS & NOTES:
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:
UIC enters Monday night's game with a record of 5-4 and fresh off a 49-47 win at Northern Illinois on Dec. 14. Jasmine Bailey is the Flames' triple crown leader, as the 5-foot-8 senior leads the team in scoring (20.8 ppg), rebounding (9.8 rpg) and assists (4.4 apg). UIC is under the direction of first-year head coach Regina Miller.
A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING:
Monday night's meeting between Roosevelt and UIC marks the first time that the Lakers have ever squared off with an NCAA Division I program.
SHAKING THAT ONE OFF:
Roosevelt will be looking to bounce back on Monday from a loss at Indiana Tech on Saturday, Dec. 17. The setback, which came after a week off for final exams, snapped the Lakers' four-game winning streak. Sophomore
Kiara Towles led Roosevelt in the contest with a career-high 22 points. The Lakers fell behind by 17 points in the second half and battled back to cut the lead to five, but could get no closer.
IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR:
Roosevelt loves the month of December. The Lakers own a 3-1 record this month and are 9-3 all-time in the year's final 31 days.
CASEY CAN:
Sophomore
Casey Davis is Roosevelt's most potent offensive threat, leading the team and ranking second in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference in scoring at 15.5 points per game. The reigning CCAC Freshman of the Year and All-CCAC honoree has scored in double figures in every game she has played in but one this season and has topped the 20-point mark on two occasions.
ANYONE CAN GET YOU 20:
Roosevelt has plenty of scoring options with four different players scoring 20 or more points in a game this season. Sophomore
Maria Tamburrino's 26 points versus Trinity Christian on Nov. 22 is the single-game high water scoring output this season, while seniors
Peggie Parhas and
Alexia Tann share the single-game scoring record honors with each tallying 30 in a game last season.
THINGS ARE BETTER WITH PEGGIE:
Roosevelt has found its groove since senior
Peggie Parhas returned to the lineup after missing the first five games of the season. The Lakers are 6-2 when Parhas plays with the former junior college All-American averaging 12.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
MY MARIA:
Sophomore
Maria Tamburrino is the only player to have started every Roosevelt women's basketball game ever played with the streak hitting 43 on Dec. 17 at Indiana Tech. Tamburrino is playing some of her best basketball this season, leading the team in rebounding at 8.1 rpg, while ranking fourth on the team in scoring at 9.5 ppg. Tamburrino has pulled down nine or more rebounds in each of her last four games, including an 11-rebound outing versus Midway College on Dec. 3.
BEATING THE BEST:
Roosevelt owns a pair of victories this season over teams ranked in the NAIA Division II Poll. The Lakers clipped #10 St. Ambrose, 79-75, on Nov. 27, and then a two weeks later topped the team who took the Queen Bees place in the polls, #10 Grace, 81-71.
ON THE ATTACK:
Roosevelt is a perfect 4-0 this season in its primary home facility, Attack Athletics. The Lakers will play all but one of their home games at the facility this season as they await the conclusion of construction of their own on-campus arena, the Lillian and Larry Goodman Center.
ERIN CAN SHOOT THE THREE:
Sophomore
Erin McCaslin is the CCAC's top three-point shooter, converting almost 2.5 triples per game. For the season, McCaslin has netted a team-best 26 three-pointers and is shooting 35 percent from behind the arc.
