Heat Wins As Roosevelt Falls At Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — Roosevelt fell 2-1 at Lewis on Wednesday after a grueling 90 minutes in the Chicagoland heat.

The Lakers (0-1-2) were on the back foot for much of the first half, but came alive midway through the period with a strong chain of passes through the midfield. The sequence ended with Aaliyah Xiomara Leanos firing a shot from long range that flew over the Lewis goalkeeper in the 17th minute. It proved to be the only shot on target Roosevelt had that would count in the final box score.

Lewis held a 18-6 edge in shot attempts and a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal in the match, but Roosevelt still held a 1-0 lead at the intermission. The Lakers had a few chances to double the lead, including a breakaway on goal that was deemed to be inches offsides. The Flyers would score in the 59th and 80th minutes to claim the victory despite a sterling seven-save performance from Kaylee Sarnicola in goal.

Roosevelt thought it tied the game in the final minutes when a flurry of action around the goal led to Kyra Cruickshank slamming the ball into the goal. However, she was whistled for offsides after she was onside for the initial shot attempt but was slightly off on the rebound.

UP NEXT: The Lakers return home for their final non-conference match of the season Sunday against Concordia St. Paul at noon at Morris Field.
