Sean Sample Named GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. – Sean Sample's perfect kicking day Saturday earned him Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.

The freshman from Minooka, Ill. tied the program record with eight extra points in Roosevelt's wild 59-56 win over Southwest Baptist over the weekend. Sample also converted on a career-best 39-yard attempt to complete his 11-point day with punter Feargal Mac Ceara acting as the holder.

Sample is now a perfect 18 for 18 on extra-point attempts this season and has made 6 of 8 field goals.

"We've had a ton of confidence in him from the moment he got here. It's not easy to step into that role as a freshman, but he's handled every opportunity with a maturity well beyond his years," Roosevelt head coach Billy McKeon said. "He's been extremely consistent for us, and when his number is called, we trust him to get the job done. We're incredibly proud of the way he's stepped up for his teammates, and it's great to see him recognized for it."

Sample is the second Lakers player this season to earn a GLIAC weekly honor, joining Derek Whaley, who was the first Defensive Player of the Week this year. This is also the third straight season the Lakers' kicker has been named the Special Teams Player of the Week at some point.

Roosevelt returns home for the first time this season for its home opener and non-conference finale Saturday at 1 p.m. against UW Stout.
