Roosevelt Softball Swept At Davenport

CALEDONIA, Mich. – Roosevelt could not bounce back from a heart-wrenching opening game and was swept by Davenport on Saturday in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader in Michigan.

The Lakers and Panthers were in a pitcher's duel to begin the twinbill with neither side blinking until the final frame. Davenport scratched across a run in the bottom of the seventh for the walk-off 1-0 win then left no doubt in the second game. Roosevelt (10-32, 4-18 GLIAC) managed just one hit in an 8-0 five-inning loss to close out the day.

Riley Czarnecki picked up the hard-luck loss in the opener despite a dominant effort in the circle for Roosevelt. She worked around an error in the first inning to strand two runners on base then took control of the game. No other Davenport runner reached second base until there were two outs in the sixth inning.

The Lakers put their first two batters on board in the second inning before leaving them there. In the fifth, pinch-hitter Kennedy Calderon hit an infield single and eventually reached third base before the inning ended. She led off the seventh with another single after becoming the designated hitter, but Roosevelt couldn't find the tiebreaking hit.

The second game began well with a bunt single from Ella Dvoracek, who then moved up 60 feet on a wild pitch. But that ended up being the only hit of the game for the Lakers with five other batters drawing walks.

UP NEXT: The Lakers will face Ferris State in Big Rapids, Mich. for a doubleheader that ends a stretch of eight straight games away from home.
