CRESTWOOD – Junior
Maxwell Bowers went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in a pair of runs, while sophomore
Quinn O'Bryan and junior
Cooper Ohlson each added two hits in a 12-6 loss to visiting Wayne State on Sunday at Ozinga Field.
Wayne State (30-9, 14-6) hit four home runs in the contest to pace its offensive output. Junior Drew Hill hit a pair of homers. He went back-to-back with teammate Owen Tuccinardi in the third inning, and later added a two-run home run in the sixth. Junior Nick Sandiha also homered in the fourth inning for the Warriors.
Roosevelt (9-31, 0-16) fell behind 4-0 early, but closed the gap to a pair of runs on two occasions, including in the bottom of the seventh. The Lakers trailed 8-6 with two out and two runners on when heavy snow forced a halt to the contest.
After a 15-minute delay Wayne State reliever Will DeMasse, who had just entered the contest, got catcher
Kyle Jannenga to foul out to end the Lakers threat. DeMasse tossed the remaining two innings to earn his second save of the year. Warriors starter State's Gabe Nazelli pitched five innings, surrendering four runs, three earned, to pick up the win. He is now 3-0 on the year.
Roosevelt starter
Aramis Salmeron allowed five runs in 3 2/3 innings of work, dropping his season record to 2-4.
The Lakers will return to action on Friday, April 24, opening a four-game series at UW-Parkside.
