CRESTWOOD – Roosevelt's winless run in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play continued Saturday with a pair of closes losses to Wayne State in a doubleheader at Ozinga Field.
After spotting the Warriors a 6-0 lead in the first game, the Lakers nearly clawed all the way back before Wayne State scored four unearned runs in the seventh inning for an 11-6 victory. In the second game of the twinbill, the Warriors were able to hold down the Lakers (9-30, 0-15 GLIAC) offense in a 6-1 win.

Wayne State came out attacking early and scored three runs in the top of the first, once in the second and twice more in the third to build that 6-0 lead. Liam Neely recorded his first five outs via strikeout and finished with seven punchouts in the game as he attempted to keep Roosevelt within striking distance.
The Lakers finally scored in the bottom of the third, doing so in an unorthodox fashion. The Wayne State pitcher tried to pick off Maxwell Bowers at third base and instead threw the ball away allowing Bowers to score. Neely recorded a 1-2-3 fourth inning and the Lakers again pushed one across, this time on a fielding error from the Warriors.
Neely stranded a leadoff single in the fifth and Tyler Ruete led off the Lakers' half of the frame with a solo shot to left center field. Quinn O'Bryan then cut the deficit to 6-4 with a sharp single up the middle that allowed CJ Chalk to hustle home from second base.
Wayne State tallied an insurance run in the sixth, but Roosevelt was right back at it with Bowers drawing a walk and Ruete lifting a single into left field. Alejandro Munoz delivered an RBI single then both he and Ruete advanced on a passed ball, setting the stage for Chalk's RBI groundout.
Trailing by a run in the top of the final inning, the Lakers recorded two quick outs. However, a fielding error allowed one run to score and prolonged the inning as three more would cross the plate in the frame. O'Bryan hit another single in the bottom of the seventh, but that was all the offense the Lakers could muster.
O'Bryan finished the game 3 for 4 with an RBI and run scored while Ruete was 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Bowers also scored twice and went 2 for 3 at the dish with a walk.

Kaden Foran put together one of the best starts by a Roosevelt pitcher this season, allowing just three runs in 5.2 innings. However, the Lakers offense did not provide a lot of run support for Foran. Roosevelt's only run of the game came in the fifth inning when O'Bryan was able to score on a double play.
Cooper Ohlson went 2 for 3 at the plate for the Lakers, but Roosevelt managed just six hits and drew only two walks in the loss. Â
