DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Roosevelt's run of three straight national championships at the National Cheer Association Championships ended Saturday with a seventh-place finish in Division II.
The Lakers had dominated the field in the Intermediate Small Coed NAIA division for the past three seasons, but were moved up to Division II competition this year. Roosevelt bested most of its new opponents in Friday's preliminary round, taking sixth less than four points behind the leader, Saginaw Valley State.
In the final performance Saturday, the Lakers had an additional .25 points in deductions, which moved them down to seventh place overall. Saginaw Valley State claimed the overall championship with a score of 93.37 while Roosevelt finished with 89.6 points for its performance.
