CHICAGO – Roosevelt cheerleading heads to Daytona Beach, Florida this week to defend its National Cheer Association College Nationals championship for a second consecutive year.
The Lakers will go for the three-peat in the Intermediate Small Coed NAIA division because per the NCA bylaws, the program will not change to the Division II section until the football program is eligible for postseason play, which would not be until the 2026 competition. The team will begin its title defense Thursday around 10:10 a.m. when the preliminary rounds begin for the division with all nine teams advancing to the final. The finals will begin at 7:00 a.m. Friday with a champion crowned by 11:00 a.m. that day.
Roosevelt's dance program will also compete at the National Dance Association College Nationals in Daytona Beach with entries in the team and hip-hop competition. The Lakers have finished in the top-five in Hip-Hop each of the past two years, including placing third last season, and is looking to move back into the top-three in the team competition.
The team contest begins Thursday at 4:45 with the preliminary round that will cut the field from nine to five teams. The Hip Hop preliminaries are set to take place Friday morning at 10:15 a.m. with five of the nine teams advancing to the finals. Should Roosevelt advance to the finals in both contests, the team finals are Friday at 5:00 p.m. while the hip-hop finale is Saturday at 9:00 a.m.Â
RooseveltLakers.com will have recaps of all three events when the teams conclude competing. Live video of the competition is provided by VarsityTV and is included in your FloSports subscription at the
