DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Roosevelt's cheerleading dynasty continued Friday as the Lakers cheer squad took home its third consecutive National Cheerleaders Association College Nationals national championship in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The two-time defending champions in the Small Intermediate Coed NAIA Division were dominant in the preliminaries on Thursday, leading the pack by nearly five points. Only 25 percent of Thursday's score transferred to the final round Friday, but it didn't matter. Roosevelt ran a much cleaner routine in the final round, scoring 92.2871 points for the event to win by almost four points.
The Lakers competed in the NAIA division because NCA rules state the school won't move to the NCAA Division II section until the football program is eligible for postseason play.
"The 2025 nationals season has truly been one for the books," spirit coordinator
Lindsay Jones said. "With a record 11 veterans from our 2024 championship team returning, our 18-person roster came in hungry for a third national title—and ready to make our final mark in the NAIA division. These athletes poured their hearts into this season, and it showed in their performances. I'm incredibly proud of the bond within our coaching staff, myself, Bobby, and the rest of the team, have such deep respect for each other's strengths, which creates an environment where both athletes and coaches thrive. This season was the perfect send-off, and we're excited for what's ahead in NCAA DII come 2026!"
Roosevelt's dance program also competed in Daytona Beach at the National Dance Association College Nationals. In the team performance, the Lakers finished a strong second place, the best placement in program history. Roosevelt actually led the competition by 0.1 points after the preliminaries, and nearly held on for the first national title in program history in the finals. Oklahoma City University clipped the Lakers by 0.4 points for the title and third-place Aquinas was more than three points behind Roosevelt.
