Roosevelt Swept In GLIAC Doubleheader At Davenport

CALEDONIA, Mich. – Roosevelt dropped both ends of a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Davenport on Saturday.

The Lakers nearly rallied in the first game of the day, but fell short 8-6 in the seven-inning contest. The second game finished 22-0 in favor of the Panthers with Roosevelt (7-14, 0-3 GLIAC) managing just five hits in the contest. The two teams are scheduled to finish the series Sunday at 11 a.m. in Michigan.

DAVENPORT 8, ROOSEVELT 6

Quinn O'Bryan led the way for the Lakers in the opener by going 2 for 3 with three RBI to help power the offense. However, the first run of the day for Roosevelt came off the bat of Andrew Lucas in the second inning. After Davenport took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, Tyler Ruete singled and took second on a wild pitch. That set up Lucas to deliver the game-tying double into center field before he was left on the base paths.

The Panthers scored three times in the second and twice more in the third inning to take a 6-1 lead, but Roosevelt wasn't done yet. Alejandro Munoz and Ruete started the fourth by earning walks, but the Lakers nearly squandered the chance with consecutive outs. Cooper Ohlson prolonged the inning with a walk before O'Bryan delivered a two-run single. CJ Chalk loaded the bases with a single as well before Davenport escaped.

Roosevelt found some luck in the sixth inning after Kyle Jannenga led off the frame with a single. Jack Hoh drew a walk then both runners moved up on a wild pitch. O'Bryan scored Jannenga with a single then a throwing error allowed Chalk to reach and Hoh to score while O'Bryan ended up a third. Ian Bagaconza drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, but that was as close as the Lakers would come.

DAVENPORT 22, ROOSEVELT 0

The Lakers managed to keep the Panthers off the board in the first inning by stranding the bases loaded. However, Davenport scored in every other inning, including nine in the second and eight more in the fifth.

Maxwell Bowers led off the second with a single then Munoz followed with a single, but Roosevelt could not get the ball out of the infield to advance the runners. Lucas had a one-out single in the third, Arthur Stamps had a single in the sixth and Jannenga singled in the seventh for Roosevelt's other three hits in the game.
