CALEDONIA, Mich. – Roosevelt opened up Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Friday with a 10-1 defeat at Davenport in Caledonia, Mich.
The Lakers (7-12, 0-1 GLIAC) put two runners on base in the top of the first with Maxwell Bowers getting hit by a pitch and Ian Bagaconza drawing a walk. Kyle Jannenga also wore a pitch in the second inning before Bowers recorded Roosevelt's first hit with a single into center field.
Liam Neely worked around a two-out single in the first inning on the bump, but the Panthers pushed three runs across in the second inning. Davenport added three more in the fourth and three runs in the fifth inning to pull away. The final run for the Panthers came in the eighth inning.
Quinn O'Bryan singled in the fifth before Roosevelt's offense finally broke through in the sixth against the Panthers. Bagaconza led off with a single then moved up to third on Alejandro Munoz's single. Tyler Ruete drove in a run despite grounding into a double play for the only Lakers run of the game. CJ Chalk recorded an infield single in the eighth for the fifth and final hit for the Lakers in the loss.
UP NEXT: The two teams are scheduled for a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon then will close the series Sunday at 11 a.m. in Michigan.
