SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Roosevelt was shut out in both halves of a doubleheader Wednesday against Illinois Springfield in Springfield, Ill.
The Lakers (5-5) dropped the first game of the day 5-0 then fell 7-0 in the second game of the twinbill to lose consecutive games for the first time all season. Freshman Kennedi Robien went 3 for 5 across the two contests and both Rebecca Urbaniak and Madisyn Schrad added hits as well for Roosevelt.
Roosevelt came out ready to make some noise in the first game with Urbaniak smacking a single into centerfield then Robien adding a single as well. Urbaniak was able to advance to third on Robien's hit and the freshman moved up to second on the throw to prevent Urbaniak from scoring. However, the threat ended there for the Lakers, who had just two base runners the rest of the game.
In the second game, Robien went 2 for 3 and Schrad added a third-inning single to supply Roosevelt's only offense.
UIS scored on a fielder's choice in the second inning of the opener before piling on for the final four runs of the game in the fourth. The Prairie Stars scored two in the first and two in the second inning of the back half of the doubleheader before three more runs in the fifth.
Roosevelt's defense struggled to help its pitching staff with six combined errors in the two games helping prolong innings for UIS.
UP NEXT: The Lakers will head to the USSSA Space Coast Games in Florida for their annual spring break trip next week. Roosevelt will play 10 games between Monday and next Saturday before returning to Chicago.
