CHICAGO – All 10 Roosevelt players found the scoresheet Saturday to help the Lakers topple Purdue Northwest 87-61 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup at the Goodman Center.
Brynne Katcher was Roosevelt's leading scorer with 16 points but finished just a rebound shy of another double-double, settling for nine boards and three assists.
Marie Outlay did reach a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds while also producing three steals and two blocks.
Isabel Lindo had 14 points and
Kelly Boyle added 12 while
Isabella Pitta was just one point shy of double figures with nine points and six rebounds.Â
It was a true team effort as the Lakers (8-17, 7-11 GLIAC) shot 47.8 percent from the field in the game, including going 11 of 15 from the floor in the fourth quarter to pull away. Roosevelt finished with a season-high 22 assists as eight of the 10 Lakers who played had multiple helpers in the game. The Lakers also were dominant on the interior with a season-best 49 rebounds while outscoring Purdue Northwest 34-16 in the paint and adding 23 second-chance points off 19 offensive rebounds.Â
The Pride took the early lead with a 3-pointer, but once Lindo tied the game with a triple of her own, the Lakers were in full control. Purdue Northwest made a bit of a run to close a 10-point gap down to two late in the first half. However, Roosevelt came out of the locker room at halftime and extended the six-point edge to 25 by outscoring the Pride 27-9 in the third quarter. The Lakers added 26 more points in the fourth quarter for the team's first 50-point half since December when they scored 51 to rally against Northern Michigan at home.Â
With the victory, the Lakers are guaranteed a berth in the upcoming GLIAC Tournament for a second straight year and can finish in any of the final four seedings. Roosevelt can finish as high as fifth by winning its final two games and finishing in a three-way tiebreaker at 9-11, which the Lakers would win with a 3-1 record against Parkside and Michigan Tech. It would win any tiebreaker with Parkside, which sits one game above Roosevelt entering the final weekend, after sweeping the Rangers this season. The Lakers would only fall to the No. 8 seed if they lose their final two games and Davenport upsets both Grand Valley State and Ferris State, the current top-two teams in the conference standings.Â
UP NEXT: Roosevelt now seeks to solidify its seeding in the conference tournament while ending the regular season on the Upper Peninsula. The Lakers travel to Northern Michigan on Thursday for the first game of the road swing at 4:30 p.m. in Marquette.
