Roosevelt Drops Twinbill Against Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. – Roosevelt was swept for the second straight day by Quincy in a non-conference doubleheader Saturday on the road.

It was also another rough day for the Lakers pitchers as the Hawks took the day with 14-2 and 18-10 wins. Although Roosevelt (1-4) had just four hits in the opening game of the day, the offense exploded for 13 in the nightcap.

The Lakers got on the board in the fourth inning of the first game with Ian Bagaconza hitting an infield single that scored Alejandro Munoz, who led off the frame with a single. Andrew Lucas had Roosevelt's first hit of the game in the third inning then Munoz had the Lakers' other hit when he started the sixth with a single.

Tyler Ruete and Bagaconza both drew walks after Munoz's second single to load the bases with one out and Quincy leading 8-1. Kyle Jannenga drove in a run with a bases loaded walk to make it 8-2 before the Hawks tacked on six runs in the bottom of the frame.

Quincy tagged Roosevelt for six runs in the first inning of the second game of the day, but the Lakers stayed the course. Arthur Stamps hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the second inning to get Roosevelt on the board as Cooper Ohlson crossed the plate. Kevin Schroer shut down the Hawks in the bottom of the second, inducing a double-play and a groundout to escape the inning unscathed.

Ohlson delivered the first big hit of the second game with a two-run double in the third inning that plated Bagaconza and Jack Hoh, who both walked. Quinn O'Bryan singled in Ohlson and Stamps was hit by a pitch to set up C.J. Chalk's game-tying single into centerfield.

In the sixth, O'Bryan worked a bases-loaded walk then Bagaconza scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit down to 13-8. Chalk hit an infield single later in the inning to tack on another run then Ohlson finished the scoring for Roosevelt with an RBI single in the ninth.

UP NEXT: Roosevelt heads to conference rival Purdue Northwest on Tuesday for a non-conference game in Hammond, Ind. at 1 p.m.
