Lakers Swept At Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. – Roosevelt dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Quincy on Friday in southern Illinois.

The Lakers (1-2) fell 27-4 in the first game before losing 15-5 in the second game to start a four-game series. The two teams will meet again Saturday for another doubleheader starting at noon in Quincy.

Roosevelt fell behind 10-0 in the opener before putting up a three spot in the third inning with the offense finally starting to come alive. Andrew Lucas and Maxwell Bowers sandwiched a C.J. Chalk walk with singles to load the bases to start the frame. Alejandro Munoz moved everyone up 90 feet with an RBI single before a misfire on a double-play ball allowed Jack Hoh to reach safely and two runs to score.

Nolan Boettcher added Roosevelt's final run of the first game with a sixth-inning double that scored Quinn O'Bryan. The Lakers managed 11 hits in the first half of the doubleheader with Bowers going 2 for 2 at the dish as the only Roosevelt player with multiple hits.

The second game started off well for Bowers and the Lakers as the junior transfer from Jackson Community College laced an RBI double into centerfield as the second batter of the game. The 1-0 lead held until the Hawks scored five runs in the third inning, but the lead was shortlived.

Chalk bashed a three-run home run in the top of the fourth to tie the game after O'Bryan hit an RBI double two batters earlier. However, the Hawks responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame and five more in the sixth to finish off the victory.

Chalk went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and his three RBIs in the second game and Ian Bagaconza went 3 for 4 at the dish. The two combined for five of Roosevelt's seven hits in the contest with Bowers and O'Bryan securing the other two with their run-scoring extra-base hits.
