Lakers Forced To Draw After Late Equalizer

KENOSHA, Wis. – A goal with 64 seconds left cruelly forced Roosevelt to settle for a 1-1 draw with Parkside on Friday afternoon in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action in Wisconsin.

The Lakers (6-3-6, 4-3-4 GLIAC) took the lead through some fantastic team attacking on the left side of the field. Tim Koczulap carried the ball up the wing and sent a pass along the sideline to Krystian Niziolek. The sophomore ran onto the pass and sent a perfect cross onto the head of Rafael Rios, who nodded home his second career goal. Roosevelt held a 9-5 advantage in shots in the first half, including a 3-0 edge in shots reaching the goal.

Play equalized a bit in the second half with both teams attempting nine shots, but the Rangers held the slim 3-2 edge in shots on target. The Lakers were able to neutralize most of Parkside's attack, but in the final minutes, the Rangers snuck home the equalizer. Roosevelt had one last chance late in the game off a pair of deep throw-ins, but neither attempt troubled the Parkside goalkeeper.

UP NEXT: Roosevelt heads west to Purdue Northwest on Sunday for the regular-season finale at 11 a.m. The Lakers' tournament seeding will be pretty straightforward with a result against the Lions, as a win or draw would give the Lakers the No. 3 seed a a home game against either Davenport or St. Cloud State on Nov. 1 in the quarterfinals. A Parkside loss or tie would also give Roosevelt a home quarterfinals match, though, it would be a rematch with the Rangers if the Lakers don't collect at least one point Sunday. A Parkside win and Roosevelt loss would mean the two teams would meet again in Kenosha next weekend in the quarterfinals.
