UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Roosevelt dropped a heartbreaking Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match 1-0 to Saginaw Valley State on Friday afternoon.
The two conference rivals were evenly matched for the entire 90 minutes with the only difference being a stroke of bad luck for the Lakers. In the game's dying moments, Cedrik Strupler took a free kick and put the ball into the Cardinals' penalty area. However, Saginaw Valley State was able to clear and a long-distance effort from beyond the midfield line was on target enough to beat the Lakers goalkeeper back to the goal.
Both teams finished with three shots on goal and Saginaw Valley State held a slim 8-7 advantage in corner kicks. Roosevelt (4-1-4, 2-1-2 GLIAC) had a pair of shots stopped in the game's final 15 minutes, including a Matti Pickel drive in the 89th minute.
