ARLINGTON HEIGHTS – Roosevelt now owns the nation's longest home unbeaten streak after playing to a 0-0 tie with Saginaw Valley State on Sunday at Morris Field.
The Lakers entered the weekend with the second-longest streak in the nation and extended their run with Friday's win over Davenport. UT Dallas, which had held the mark at 22 straight games, fell Saturday night and Roosevelt (6-1-5, 4-1-3 GLIAC) matched that total with Sunday's tie. Roosevelt is not scheduled to play another home game this season, but would end up hosting games in the GLIAC Tournament should the Lakers finish in first, third or fourth place in the league.
There was not much to separate the two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals Sunday as they entered the day tied atop the conference standings. The Lakers finished with a slight 13-12 edge in shot attempts and a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal, but nothing really troubled either goalkeeper in the game.
Prior to the match, Roosevelt honored its seven seniors on Senior Day for their contributions to the program. Among those honored were two members of the 2024 GLIAC Regular-Season championship squad, midfielders Erik Hernandez and Noah Vasilev. Roosevelt also recognized graduate student forward Fynn Mewes as well as fellow Germans Tim Koczulap and Daniel Schaefer. The final two honorees were Miguel Gomez and Alberto Rodriguez.
UP NEXT: Roosevelt takes its longest road trip of the season this week with a Wednesday match against St. Cloud State in Minnesota followed by a rematch against Northern Michigan in Marquette on Friday.
