DETROIT, Mich. – The shots did not fall for Roosevelt on Saturday in a 78-50 loss to Wayne State in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest in Detroit.
The Lakers fell behind early in the game and could not shoot itself out of the slump with just one player finishing in double figures. As a team, Roosevelt (4-11, 3-5 GLIAC) made less than 28 percent from the field and made just five 3-pointers. Kelly Boyle hit three of those five triples to finish with nine points and she also had three assists and three steals.
Brynne Katcher finished with a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lakers in both categories. Aubrey Leonard added eight points as did Marie Outlay, who again made her presence known on defense. The junior is the reigning GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week and made a case to repeat the honor with five steals and two blocks.
Roosevelt stepped up its defensive effort by holding the Warriors to 34.3 percent from the field in the second half. The Lakers also cleaned up the turnovers with just six giveaways in the second half while forcing eight turnovers of their own. Â
