DETROIT, Mich. – Roosevelt fell 78-67 to Wayne State on Saturday in a back-and-forth Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup in Detroit.
The Lakers (2-13, 1-7 GLIAC) held their own against the Warriors for most of the 40 minutes, but the difference in the game was the end of the first half into the start of the second. Wayne State went on a 16-0 run that spanned the halves turning a five-point Roosevelt lead with 90 seconds left in the first half into an 11-point deficit two and a half minutes into the second.
Mikey West had another strong offensive performance, coming off the bench to score 19 points on 6 of 14 shooting, including 4 of 7 from behind the arc. Hamahrie Bowers and Dante Sawyer both chipped in 15 points for the Lakers as well. Roosevelt was an efficient 7 of 12 from behind the arc in the loss, but finished at 40 percent from the field.
Davon Smith-Johnson led the Lakers with six rebounds, followed by Sawyer with five boards, and West dished out three of Roosevelt's six assists in the game. The Lakers committed just six turnovers in the game while turning 11 Wayne State miscues into 18 points. Roosevelt also held a 12-3 edge in fastbreak points and only lost the battle in the paint 30-28.
