Boyle, Lindo Have Career Nights In Lakers Win

HAMMOND, Ind. – A pair of career nights from the perimeter led Roosevelt to a 74-64 win over Purdue Northwest on Thursday in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action in Hammond, Ind.

Isabel Lindo led all scorers with 24 points, surpassing her career high by seven points while making 4 of 7 from behind the arc. Kelly Boyle also topped her career best with 22 points, 14 of which came in the fourth quarter to help the Lakers (4-10, 3-4 GLIAC) pull away from the Pride.

Boyle shot 4 for 8 from the floor and 3 of 6 from deep in the fourth quarter to lead the Lakers' offensive output. She also had a steal and drew two fouls – making 3 of 4 from the line – to help put the game away. She finished 5 of 9 from 3-point range to help the Lakers set a season high with 12 made triples while making a season-best 44.4 percent from behind the arc.

Roosevelt threatened to run away with the game in the third quarter when Boyle hit a stepback 3-pointer to increase the Lakers' advantage to 16 with five minutes left in the quarter. However, the Pride clawed back to within five points entering the final stanza, setting up a battle over the last 10 minutes. Purdue Northwest trimmed the deficit to two early in the fourth quarter, but Boyle had a personal 6-0 run to extinguish that hope.

Lindo scored 13 points in the second half to help the Lakers, including a clutch three-point play late in the game to seal the victory. She sank two of her three 3-point attempts in the second half, picking her spots well on when to attack. The junior helped get the Lakers off to a strong start with six first-quarter points, both of which came on 3-pointers, then made three free throws among her five points in the second.

The Lakers were without starting center Isabella Pitta due to illness, and her teammates stepped up to replace her more than 10 rebounds per game. Roosevelt tied Purdue Northwest on the glass with 33 rebounds each, but the Lakers grabbed 15 offensive rebounds and turned them into 18 second-chance points.

The Lakers also scored 22 points off 19 Purdue Northwest turnovers while only turning the ball over six times – the program's fewest in coach Deon Thomas' tenure. Roosevelt also set a season high with 14 steals as six players finished with multiple steals, including Marie Outlay, who added three to her total.

Brynne Katcher slid over to the center spot in the game and finished with nine points and a team-high eight rebounds. She scored six of those points in the opening quarter and added five rebounds in the first half. Outlay grabbed five of her six rebounds on the offensive end, but made her presence more known on defense as a pest for the Pride. She added three blocks to her three steals and ended up with numerous deflections as well.

UP NEXT: The Lakers hit the road Saturday as they head to Detroit to face Wayne State at 1 p.m. in the Motor City.
