Lakers Drop Regular Season Finale To No. 2 Grand Valley State

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Jayla Turchin scored 22 points but it was not enough for Roosevelt in a 116-62 loss to No. 2 Grand Valley State on Saturday in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season finale for both teams in Allendale, Mich.

The first two minutes were alright for the visiting Lakers (12-14, 10-10 GLIAC) as they kept pace with the third-ranked team in the country. But when the shots stopped falling after Marie Outlay and Alexia Lohman connected on 3-pointers, the game got out of hand in a hurry. Grand Valley State went on a 28-2 run to blow the game wide open to lead by 26 after 10 minutes and 39 at halftime.

Turchin's 22 points came with six rebounds as well while Outlay scored 16 and grabbed six rebounds as the only two Lakers with more than five points in the game. Kencia Levasseur led the team with seven rebounds and four assists as Roosevelt tried to make a dent in the deficit.

The Lakers shot 50 percent or better in both the second and third quarters, but they couldn't trim Grand Valley State's lead. Once the second-ranked Lakers' advantage crossed 30 points, it stayed there and didn't drop below 34 points in the second half. Grand Valley State only shot 45.7 percent from the field in the second half, slightly better than Roosevelt's 40.7 percent in the final 20 minutes.

UP NEXT: The Lakers already secured the sixth seed in the conference tournament next week, and learned their opponent after Saturday's action concluded. Ferris State won the three-way tiebreaker for the third seed, and will host Roosevelt on Wednesday in Big Rapids, Mich. at a time to be announced.
