Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Prater Powers Lakers Past Warriors At Home

CHICAGO – Forte Prater made sure Roosevelt would win consecutive games for the second time this season with a huge outburst in the Lakers' 90-83 win over Wayne State in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at the Goodman Center.

The senior guard started the game a perfect 5 for 5 with 13 points and finished the half with 16 points. In the second half, though, Prater made big plays on both ends of the floor, finding different ways to make an impact for the Lakers (8-16, 5-11 GLIAC). He finished the game with 31 points, eight assists and two steals, making the big plays when it counted for Roosevelt.

With Roosevelt nursing a one-point lead, Prater hit a 3-pointer, his fourth of the game, then immediately forced a turnover with a steal. Instead of driving the lane himself for a contested layup, he drew in the defense and kicked out to Enari Thomas for a 3-pointer. Prater then hit all four of his free throws down the stretch to seal the win for Roosevelt.

Griffin Yaklich didn't come close to a triple-double on Monday, but he recorded another double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. The senior was a hound around the glass and scored consecutive tip-ins to tie the game at 75 then give Roosevelt the lead for good with 2:07 left. He secured nine rebounds in the second half to lead the team by a wide margin on the boards.

The two teams were very evenly matched and it showed with neither team pulling away until very late in the contest. The largest lead for either team was five until Prater's steal and dish to Thomas with 1:14 left that gave Roosevelt a seven-point advantage. The Warriors led 49-44 and 71-66 in the second half, but both times the Lakers quickly came back to tie the score. Meanwhile, Roosevelt's largest lead was its 7-2 outburst to start the game.

One of the main reasons the Lakers were able to not let the Warriors run away in the second half was the hot shooting of Fred Robinson IV. The junior poured in 17 points in the second half and made 5 of 6 from behind the arc over the final 20 minutes. He finished with 22 total points to help pick up the slack for Thomas who made just one of his first nine shots. Thomas made his final three shots to score 15 points as Roosevelt shot 57 percent as a team in the second half.

UP NEXT: Roosevelt will look to extend its winning ways at home on Saturday when it faces a stiff test from GLIAC-leading Michigan Tech at 3 p.m. in the Goodman Center.
