CHICAGO – Roosevelt could not match the barrage of 3-pointers from league-leading Michigan Tech, and the Lakers fell 82-56 to the No. 22 Huskies in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at the Goodman Center on Saturday.
The Lakers kept with the Huskies early in the game, but Michigan Tech managed to slowly pull away throughout the first opening half. Michigan Tech led by as many as 13 in the first half while sinking seven 3-pointers, but Roosevelt (8-17, 5-12 GLIAC) managed to trim the deficit into single digits by halftime. The Huskies finished 11 of 30 from behind the arc compared to a modest 5-of-11 effort from the Lakers.
Even with
Enari Thomas scoring 11 of his 13 points after halftime, the Lakers struggled to weather the storm from the Huskies. A 21-2 Michigan Tech run pushed the deficit from a manageable eight points all the way out to 27 with 8:49 left in the game. The difference was the second-chance points, which the Huskies used to pull away during that stretch. Michigan Tech scored 13 second-chance points in the second half and 23 in the game.
Fred Robinson IV led the Lakers in scoring with 15 points, sinking half of his four 3-point attempts and finishing 6 of 11 from the field.
Forte Prater had some good looks at the rim and finished with 13 points, tying Thomas' total.
Griffin Yaklich did as much as he could to keep Michigan Tech off the glass with 11 rebounds while also contributing seven points, six assists, three steals and three blocks.
UP NEXT: The Lakers will finish out their homestand Monday night with Senior Day against Northern Michigan. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with the Senior Day festivities taking place prior to tipoff against the Wildcats.
