Sinclair Powers Lakers To Key Road Win

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lexie Sinclair scored a career-best 21 points to lead Roosevelt to a 78-65 win over Lake Superior State in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon in Michigan.

The senior was 5 of 9 from 3-point range in the game, helping keep the Lakers in rhythm in the first three quarters. Sinclair opened the game by canning a 3-pointer, a bright spot in an otherwise sluggish first quarter for Roosevelt. The Lakers (6-11, 4-7 GLIAC) trailed by six after the first 10 minutes and didn't catch up until Luka Malinka drained a 3-pointer with a minute left to send the game into the locker room tied at 33.

Sinclair was perfect from the floor in the third quarter, scoring eight points on a pair of 3-pointers and a layup. Her consecutive fastbreak 3-pointers gave Roosevelt a four-point lead in the third quarter as the Lakers began to ride their starters. Four of Roosevelt's five starters finished the game in double figures and all of them played more than 18 minutes in the second half.

Jayla Turchin was a particular force in the second half for the Lakers with 15 points and six rebounds after halftime. She was 5 of 8 from the field, including 2 of 3 from deep, in the second half to finish the game with 17 points after being limited to three shots and a rebound in the first half.

What Turchin was for the Roosevelt offense, Marie Outlay was for the Lakers' defense as the sophomore recorded five of her six steals in the second half. Outlay also scored nine second-half points to end the game with 15 points while also drawing five fouls over the final 20 minutes.

Malinka also finished with 17 points, but also dished out four of her team-high six assists in the second half. Turchin led the way with seven rebounds for the Lakers, followed closely by six apiece from Malinka and Outlay. Jalyssa Carrasco was steady at the point guard spot for the Lakers with five rebounds and four assists as she sank four free throws for her points.

UP NEXT: Roosevelt finishes off this extended road trip with a matchup against Ferris State on Monday at 4:30 p.m. in Big Rapids, Mich.
