FAYETTE, Iowa – Roosevelt's fourth-quarter comeback attempt came up just shy in a 64-56 setback on Tuesday against Upper Iowa on the road.
The Lakers (1-7) started the game much better and held a four-point lead in the opening quarter. Roosevelt fed the Peacocks a steady diet of Isabella Pitta in the paint and the junior scored seven points and grabbed four rebounds in the opening quarter as the game remained a one-possession contest.
However, an early offensive foul against Pitta forced Roosevelt to remove her from the game, and that allowed Upper Iowa to stretch its lead to as many as 15 in the second quarter. The Lakers, who have made numerous second-half comebacks this season, came out of halftime and again began to attack the deficit.
Consecutive 3-pointers from Kelly Boyle in the middle of the third quarter trimmed the Peacocks' lead down to five. It was a similar situation in the fourth quarter as the Lakers again worked the deficit down to five with 2:27 left in regulation. However, that was as close as Roosevelt would be able to get in the second half.
Isabel Lindo scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half and Boyle had 10 of her 13 in the final 20 minutes as well. Pitta led the way for the Lakers with 15 points and 14 rebounds for her third double-double in the past five regular-season contests and fourth in her last six games overall.
Marie Outlay continued to inch closer to the program steals record with four more thefts, bringing her 41 away from tying the mark and improving her season average to 3.75 steals per game. The junior also scored five points and grabbed seven rebounds while playing an important role in limiting Upper Iowa to 38.6 percent shooting over the final three quarters.
UP NEXT: The Lakers return home Saturday for their final game of the 2025 calendar year, a home date with in-state rival Lewis at 1 p.m. at the Goodman Center.
