MARQUETTE, Mich. – Roosevelt fell 77-55 to Northern Michigan on Monday evening in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest in Marquette, Michigan.
It was another strong start for the Lakers (4-10, 1-5 GLIAC) as they jumped out to a 10-4 lead at the first media timeout. The lead fluctuated between the two teams for much of the rest of the half until the Wildcats put together a 10-0 run to enter halftime with a 12-point edge. Roosevelt was able to trim the deficit to 10 on a few occasions in the second half, but could never crack back into single digits.
The Lakers had much of their success in transition with 17 fast-break points, but struggled to finish possessions in the halfcourt. Roosevelt shot just 26.5 percent from the field in the second half, including making only 3 of 15 from behind the arc. The Lakers were able to hold Northern Michigan under 40 percent in the second half while limiting the Wildcats to 4 of 13 from long range over the final 20 minutes.
Forte Prater led Roosevelt with 15 points, 10 of which came in the opening half, and
Ramean Hinton added nine second-half points to finish with 11 in the game. Hinton and
Griffin Yaklich tied for the team lead with eight rebounds each as the Lakers barely lost the battle on the glass 42-39.
