HOUGHTON, Mich. – Roosevelt's shots struggled to fall in the second half as Michigan Tech ran away with an 82-59 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over the Lakers on Saturday in Houghton, Michigan.
The game started well for the visitors with the Lakers jumping out to a nine-point edge a little more than five minutes into the contest. Roosevelt (4-9, 1-4 GLIAC) shot 50 percent from the field in the first half and never allowed the Huskies to lead by more than one possession.
Enari Thomas sank a jumper with 30 seconds left to cap off a 16-point half for the guard and give the Lakers a 40-38 lead at intermission.
However, Michigan Tech scored the first nine points of the second half before the Lakers defense created some points.
Forte Prater made a 3-pointer off a bad pass from the Huskies and
Ramean Hinton went coast-to-coast with a steal to cut the deficit down to two. That was as close as the Lakers would get in the second half as the Huskies kept Roosevelt scoreless for nearly seven minutes, turning a three-point lead into a 21-point hole.
Roosevelt made just six shots in the second half and connected on just one of its seven 3-point attempts. Thomas scored seven points in the second half to finish with a team-best 23 points and Prater grinded out five more points to reach double figures with 10.
Khalil Haywood led the Lakers with eight rebounds and also had a pair of blocks.
UP NEXT: Roosevelt closes out its road trip to the Upper Peninsula on Monday with a 6:30 p.m. contest at Northern Michigan.
