Lakers Finish Ohio Trip With Pair Of Tough Losses

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – Roosevelt fell in both of its matches Saturday at the Hall of Fame City Classic hosted by Walsh in North Canton, Ohio.

The Lakers (1-3) couldn't fend off the rallies in either of the matches, falling to Lake Erie 25-20, 26-24, 25-20 before getting swept by Walsh 25-15, 25-19, 25-6. Although
Roosevelt dropped all six sets Saturday, it held a lead of at least three points in four of the six sets in which it played.

Lake Erie 3, Roosevelt 0
Emily DeBlecourt smacked down six of her seven kills in the opening set, but the a critical 6-0 run midway through the game was the difference maker. DeBlecourt hit .500 in the first set while Yuliia Shchepkina smashed down three kills on six attempts as Roosevelt held the errors to a minimum.

Zoe Hutchinson dished out 10 of her 25 assists in the second set, helping the Lakers build a 24-19 lead with Natalia Smiech on the service line. Alas, four errors over the final seven points hurt the Lakers as the Storm clawed back.

Eager to force a fourth set, Roosevelt took a 6-1 lead in the third behind aces from Hutchinson and Smiech. Viktoria Marysheva finished with a team-high eight kills in the match and recorded three of them in the set. Shchepkina also finished with seven kills in the match.

Walsh 3, Roosevelt 0
Roosevelt jumped out to quick leads in both of the first two sets against Malone, claiming five of the first six points in the opener then four of the first five in the second set. Marysheva hit .294 and racked up six kills in the first two sets to lead the team while Shchepkina had four kills and two blocks for the Lakers in those two games.

Krista Norton finished with three total blocks in the match while Isa Grana joined Hutchinson with eight assists apiece in the match.

UP NEXT: The Lakers trek west next weekend to Springfield, Missouri for the Drury Invitational. Roosevelt will take on Newman and the hosts on Friday before facing Rockhurst and Southern Nazarene on Saturday. It will once again be four new opponents for the Lakers as they continue their integration into NCAA Division II.
