SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – It was a tough day for Roosevelt on the court as the Lakers were swept in both of their matches Friday at the Drury Invitational hosted by Drury in Springfield, Mo.

Newman 3, Roosevelt 0
It was a slow start to the morning for Roosevelt as Newman jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the opening set. The Lakers cut the deficit to as little as four in that first set, but it was a sign of things to come. Newman opened up a 7-1 lead in both the second and third sets, and the Lakers stormed back with their backs against the wall.
In the third set, Roosevelt rallied from being down six points to not only tie the set at 21, but then take the lead 22-21.
Krista Norton and
Yuliia Shchepkina both had three kills in the third set to finish tied for the team lead in the match at six kills overall.
Drury 3, Roosevelt 0
The Lakers were ready to start their second match of the day with a 4-0 run to break a 10-10 deadlock. Roosevelt maintained that advantage for much of the set, forcing a timeout from Drury while the hosts trailed 18-14. Marysheva slammed down five of her match-high 12 kills in the opening set and hit above .300 on her 16 attacks.
Drury pounced quickly on Roosevelt in the second set and never looked back, but Marysheva made the most of her chances with three kills and no errors on seven swings. Marysheva finished with a .333 hitting percentage with her 12 kills on 33 attacking attempts. Norton had five kills with no errors in the match as well.
