Lakers Subdued By Huskies At Home

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS – Roosevelt's struggles continued Sunday afternoon with a 6-0 loss to Michigan Tech at Morris Field in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.

The Lakers (0-5-2, 0-4-0 GLIAC) had some early moments to threaten the Huskies net, but Michigan Tech opened the scoring just past the 10-minute mark. The Huskies added three more before the first half ended despite two massive saves from junior Roxy Herrera to keep the deficit in check midway through the half.

Roosevelt put just one of its six shots on target, a Paola Macias drive that the Huskies goalkeeper had to deflect away. There were a few more half-chances for the Lakers with Bella Perry finding dangerous areas of the goal mouth with free kicks and barely missing the crossbar on another free kick.

Herrera finished with four saves in the game, all of which were far from routine as she protected the net. The junior faced 23 total shot attempts and had to deal with 15 Michigan
Tech corners, but stood tall to deny the Huskies on several dangerous opportunities.

UP NEXT: Roosevelt makes the short trip to Kenosha, Wis. on Friday to face Parkside in a reunion game for head coach Tom Czop. The Lakers' fifth-year boss was a two-time All-American with the Rangers from 1991-1994 and still holds the record for most goals in a season as well as most goals and most points per game in a single season.
