KENOSHA, Wis. – Roosevelt's defense stood tall Friday while holding Parkside to a 0-0 draw in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match in Kenosha, Wis.
Although the Lakers (0-5-3, 0-4-1 GLIAC) were outshot 22-14, junior keeper
Roxy Herrera had to make just five saves, four of which came in the second half. In front of her,
Roosevelt's defensive structure kept the Rangers at bay, blocking seven shots and forcing 10 other shots off target. Parkside outshot Roosevelt 11-4 in the first half, but the game evened out in the second half with the Rangers' advantage in shot attempts shrinking to 11-10.
The Lakers finished with four shots on target, including an early
Bella Perry drive less than 90 seconds into the match. Perry finished with two of Roosevelt's four shots on goal,
Paola Macias put one of her two attempts on target and
Cheech Seuberling had the other shot on goal.
Aaliyah Leanos barely missed the goal in the final seconds, ringing the crossbar with a shot with less than a minute to go.
CLEAN SHEET QUEENS: Friday was Roosevelt's first shutout of the season and the eighth of Herrera's career. She is now tied with teammate
Gaby Aguinaga-Hernandez for the most clean sheets in program history.
