CHICAGO – Roosevelt fell in three sets Saturday afternoon at the Goodman Center in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match against Parkside.
The Lakers (1-11, 0-4 GLIAC) showed great fight in the 25-21, 25-18, 25-22 setback, keeping the Rangers on their heels for much of the match. There was just one tie in the first set of the match, but the teams were tied eight times in the second set and seven times in the third with the lead changing hands four times in each set.
The only tie in the opening set came at 7-7, but Roosevelt hung around and kept the deficit to within two or three points. Parkside extended its lead out to five late in the set, but the Lakers responded with three straight points to force a Rangers timeout.
Roosevelt's depth on offense was on display in the second set with five different players recording at least two kills. The Lakers led 15-14 before the Rangers scored seven straight points to wrestle control of the set.
Zoe Hutchinson, who had a team-high 30 assists, had 11 helpers in each of the first two sets.
It was all Roosevelt to begin the third set with three straight points to kick off the game, highlighted by a
Cydney Martinez ace.
Viktoria Marysheva recorded five of her team-best 11 kills in the third set and
Yuliia Shchepkina added four of her nine in the set as well. However, the Rangers pulled away late to secure the win.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Hutchinson recorded her second double-double of the season with 16 digs to go along with her 30 assists. She fell just one dig shy of her career best, set two years ago, and reached 30 assists for just the seventh time in her career. The performance came on a day where Hutchinson was honored pregame for reaching 1,000 career assists on Friday night.
