Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Thomas, Prater Pace Lakers Past Panthers

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Enari Thomas dropped 30 points and Forte Prater added 21 to lead Roosevelt to a 67-57 road win over Ohio Dominican on Monday night in Columbus, Ohio.

Thomas becomes the fourth different player to score at least 30 points in the Dee Brown era and it is the sixth 30-point performance in Brown's tenure. The junior from Chicago scored the first six points of the game, draining a pair of 3s in the first two minutes for the Lakers. He finished with 18 first-half points to help the Lakers (2-3) take a five-point lead into the intermission.

Both Prater and Thomas were on point in the second half, scoring 12 points each to help Roosevelt never lose its advantage. The duo combined to shoot 50 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes and made 2 of 3 from behind the arc. Kennedy Brown and Griffin Yaklich were the only other two Lakers to score in the second half with both scoring four points each.

However, the Roosevelt defense proved to be the story of the second half as the Lakers held Ohio Dominican to just 31.4 percent from the field. This includes the Panthers missing all 16 of their 3-pointers in the final 20 minutes, part of a trend of solid perimeter defense from Roosevelt that limited Ohio Dominican to 3 of 26 from long range. The Panthers only shot 32.8 percent in the game and only led for a little more than four minutes.

After Thomas' first two 3-pointers, the Lakers went into a bit of a drought and missed their next six shots. Roosevelt went nearly five and a half minutes without scoring before Khalil Haywood made a free throw. Yet within two minutes of that foul shot, the Lakers tied the game as part of an 13-2 run in which they made 5 of 6 from the field with Prater scoring seven points.

The Lakers' lead shrunk to two at the midway point of the second half, but Prater and Thomas made layups in quick succession to push the edge back to six. Roosevelt extended its lead to as many as 13 with four minutes left as part of a 12-3 run then maintained the advantage by making free throws down the stretch.

Brown finished with 11 points to join Prater and Thomas in double figures. Haywood and Yaklich tied for the team lead with nine rebounds each.

UP NEXT: The Lakers stay on the road for a pre-Thanksgiving showdown in Indianapolis against the University of Indianapolis at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
