CHICAGO – Roosevelt's soccer programs continued to excel in the classroom with nine players being named to the College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District teams, the organization announced Tuesday.
Four of the nine honorees were also all-district selections last year and two more were honored in their first year of eligibility. On the women's soccer team, junior goalie
Roxy Herrera and senior midfielder
Paola Macias earn the honor for the second straight year and are joined by senior forward
Kelsey Johnson and sophomore midfielder
Brenna Rohloff.
For the men, returning all-district team members
Gabriel Koenig and
Oskar Schuster advanced to the vote for Academic All-American ballot after being first-team All-GLIAC selections this season. Junior
Davide Comai, junior
Luca Swinton and sophomore
Noah Vasilev each earned their first all-district distinction this year for the men's program.
In order to be named to the Academic All-District teams, a student-athlete not only hold at least a 3.5 grade point average as a sophomore or older, but also must have either appeared in 90 percent of a team's games or started 2/3 of a team's contests. The list of all-district honorees is then vetted by the CSC committee, who send out a ballot for All-American honors to the membership. The Academic All-American teams will be announced on Dec. 10 for the men and Dec. 11 for the women.
The Academic All-America program is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across championship college sports in all three NCAA divisions, the NAIA, two-year colleges and Canadian institutions. It was established in 1952 and the honorees are nominated by CSC members then All-American honors are voted on by the membership as well.
