MARQUETTE, Mich. – Roosevelt took full advantage of a Northern Michigan miscue to claim a 1-0 road win over the Wildcats in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Sunday in Marquette, Mich.
The Lakers (4-2-2, 2-2-0 GLIAC) were under heavy pressure for much of the first half with Northern Michigan outshooting Roosevelt 11-3 in the first 45 minutes. However, only two of those shots made it on goal, and both were routinely handled by
Eric Carvajal. Instead, it was the one Lakers shot that reached goal that proved to be the difference.
Nick Kilian started the play by chasing down a loose ball before it went out of bounds and playing a quick give-and-go with
Rafael Rios. Kilian sent a dangerous cross into the penalty area and it looked like the Wildcats keeper was going to catch it. However, he bobbled the ball and it fell right onto the foot of Haris Sarajlija, who poked it over the line in the 42
nd minute.
Northern Michigan went down a man a little more than five minutes into the second half, and Roosevelt took advantage with a 12-7 edge in shot attempts. Carvajal was forced into making four more saves to finish off his six-save shutout and the Lakers forced four saves from the Northern Michigan goalie.
UP NEXT: Roosevelt returns home for the first time in nearly a month when it hosts Parkside on Friday at 2 p.m. at Morris Field.
