MARQUETTE, Mich. – Three first half goals were too much for Roosevelt to overcome in a 3-0 loss to Northern Michigan on Friday in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
The Lakers (0-9-4, 0-8-2 GLIAC) were bombarded with shots early and often in the first half, being outshot 18-2 over the opening 45 minutes.
Roxy Herrera made six stops on the nine shots that reached target in the first half then blocked all six shots on goal in the second half to finish with 12 saves. Roosevelt put just one shot on target, coming courtesy of
Bella Perry in the second half.
All of the Wildcats' scoring came in a 12-minute section in the middle of the first half. Northern Michigan took the lead in the 25
th minute then added on goals in the 30
th and 37
th minutes as well. The Wildcats had five shots before Perry's effort into the upper right corner was stopped by the Northern Michigan goalie in the 15
th minute.
Perry had a second shot that just snuck over the crossbar in the 19
th minute while
Mayte Gongora and
Daisy Hernandez-Loya both had shot attempts in the second half.
UP NEXT: The Lakers complete their swing across Michigan's Upper Peninsula with a Sunday match at Michigan Tech at noon in Houghton.
