CALEDONIA, Mich. – A two-goal spurt in the first five minutes of the second half was enough to push Davenport past Roosevelt 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup in Michigan.
Roxy Herrera made three saves in the first half and
Paola Macias had her shot pushed aside as the Panthers and Lakers went into halftime 0-0. However, Davenport scored twice in the first five minutes of the second half to snap Roosevelt's (0-6-4, 0-5-2 GLIAC) shutout streak at five halves. The Panthers added a third goal in the 58
th minute to further extend their lead.
Daisy Hernandez-Loya broke through for the Lakers in the 78
th minute with a header off a
Bella Perry free kick.
Cami Butler started the play when she took a heavy touch off the Davenport defender and rushed up the left sideline. She was pushed over, drawing a foul and Perry served up the perfect cross into the box for Hernandez-Loya to head home.
Davenport finished with an 18-10 advantage in shot attempts and a 9-4 edge in shots on goal. Herrera made six saves in net for the Lakers while Hernandez-Loya had two shots on target from six attempts to lead the offense.
