Tenner Scores Fives Times as Lakers Football Wins in Convincing Fashion at TIU

Box Score

DEERFIELD, Ill. – The 18th ranked Roosevelt Lakers football team leaned on the run game to continue its dominant play with a 42-14 win over Trinity International University on Saturday, October 15 at Leslie Frazier Field in Deerfield, Illinois. The MSFA Midwest league victory improved the Lakers record to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

After a slow start to the game with the teams alternating scoreless drives, Roosevelt was able to get on the board first on the team's second drive of the game. The Lakers would move the ball effectively on the drive, going 80 yards on eight plays, including 52 yards on the ground from Tyler Tenner. The junior running back capped the drive with a nine-yard touchdown scamper, the first on what would become a career day.

The Trojans tied things up on the ensuing drive with a 60-yard touchdown pass. That score seemed to help the Lakers defense settled in, as they forced three and outs on the next two TIU drives. RU would use a team effort to contain the Trojan offense all day long, not allowing another score until late in the fourth quarter. 18 different Lakers would record tackles on the day as Jalen Perkins and Ozell Richardson led the team for four tackles each.

The Roosevelt offense would focus its efforts on the ground on the next two drives, leading to two more Tenner touchdowns from two and twelve yards respectively. With three rushing touchdowns, the Lakers headed into the locker room at half up 21-7.

Roosevelt would maintain that momentum throughout the second half, dominating TIU on the ground. On the opening drive, the Lakers traveled 51 yards, on three Tenner rushes, including a five-yard touchdown. Tenner would score again on the following Roosevelt drive, this time from four yards out to give the Lakers a 35-7 advantage. Junior Jerrell Calhoun finalized the scoring for RU, galloping in from the three yard line late in the fourth quarter to solidify the 42-14 win for the nation's 18th ranked team.

Tenner finished the game rushing 25 times for 220 yards and five touchdowns. The career day gives the running back 764 yards and 12 scores on the year.
