BENSENVILLE, Ill. – The Roosevelt baseball team rebounded from a 15-1 loss in a twinbill-opening game at Robert Morris by giving the Eagles a taste of their own medicine, scoring 19 runs to take a 14-run decision of its own in a 19-5 nightcap win for the Lakers at Memorial Field late Wednesday night.
The split took Roosevelt's overall record to 11-26 and 11-14 in the CCAC standings. RMU is 27-15 overall and 15-11 within conference play.
RMU led the first game 5-1 when the Eagles broke the opener open with a nine-run fifth.
The Lakers came out of the gate on fire in game two, scoring five times in the top of the first and putting up two-run showings in the fourth and seventh before an exclamation point of a ninth inning. That's when Roosevelt overwhelmed the Eagles with a 10-run frame on nine RU hits to put the game well out of reach and into late-night territory, as the final pitch was recorded well after 11 p.m.
Seven Lakers had multi-hit games in the nightcap, led by Joey Fox's impressive 5-for-7, three-RBI display.
Jake Hutchinson drove in a team-high four runs, while Parker Coleman had four hits and three RBI.
Leo Lunatto had two hits while Zach Taylor drove in RU's solo run in the first game.
Anthony Nicholas got the win for the Lakers, while Matt Donahue's four innings of relief allowed him to get the save. Both Roosevelt pitchers struck out seven RMU batters.
