Jordan's Double-Double Dominance Leads Women's Basketball Past Trinity Christian, 53-52

CHICAGO – Erica Jordan was unstoppable in the post during a double-double effort off the bench, and the Roosevelt women's basketball team rallied back from a double-digit second-half deficit and hung on after Trinity Christian's last-season layup attempt missed the mark in a thrilling 53-52 win at the Goodman Center on Saturday.

Jordan scored a game-high 18 points and led all rebounders by corralling 14 boards for the Lakers (8-5, 3-4 CCAC), who survived a tooth-and-nail battle with the gritty Trolls (0-13, 0-7 CCAC) despite shooting under 20 percent in the second half and 30 percent for the game.

Paige Gallimore added 12 points while Jasmine Kyler turned in 11 rebounds.

Trinity Christian stunned Roosevelt early with an early 17-0 run that carried over into the second quarter and put the Trolls up by 13.

The Lakers chipped away and tied the game two minutes before intermission, but Trinity Christian fought back to go up 11 in the third quarter.

Roosevelt proceeded to outscore the Trolls 16-6, a key stretch capped by a huge hoop-and-harm three-point play executed by Jordan, who proved to be difficult for the guests to handle in the paint.

The Lakers went up four with 1:54 to play in regulation, and Trinity Christian eventually whittled that advantage down to one and had the chance for a final shot with nine ticks on the clock.

Lauren Stokes drove through the middle of the lane and had what appeared to be a clean look at the goal, but her shot rolled off the rim as time expired for an exasperating end that resulted in a Laker victory.

Roosevelt begins the 2015 Roosevelt Holiday Hoops Tournament this Monday, Dec. 21 at 5:30 p.m. against Ashford, followed by a contest at 7:30 p.m. between Governors State and Siena Heights as part of the event at the Goodman Center.
