Marcus Summers

Marcus Summers was promoted to Roosevelt's head strength and conditioning coach prior to the 2025-26 academic year. 

Summers leads performance development for all of Roosevelt's varsity athletic programs. Previously, he served two seasons as the head of strength and conditioning for the Lakers' men's and women's basketball teams before being named the interim strength and conditioning coach during the spring 2025 semester.

A U.S. Army veteran and former NAIA basketball player, Summers brings over 15 years of experience in the fitness industry with a background in coaching across all levels—from youth to professional athletes. He holds multiple certifications including NSCA-Certified Strength Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Barbell Rehab Method Specialist (BRM), TRX Instructor, Kettlebell Concepts, and Basic Life Support (BLS).

He is no stranger to Roosevelt, having joined the university as an advisory board member in the Bachelor of Arts in Exercise, Nutrition, and Health Science (ENHS) program in 2019. In 2022, he joined the school's faculty as an adjunct professor in the College of Science, Health, and Pharmacy and will serve in that role in addition to his duties as Science Advisory Board for Malcom X College. 

Summers earned his A.S. in Nutrition, Fitness & Health, B.S. in Fitness Management, while playing scholarship basketball for Purdue Northwest Pride and later returned to complete his MBA after his athletic career. 

As a soldier in the U.S. Army Summers served from 2002–2008 and deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. He is deeply committed to athlete-first programming rooted in holistic development , injury prevention, motivation, and progressive improvement. 

Marcus and his wife Katherine are proud parents to two daughters, Amari and Kinsley.
