Brandon Benson joins the Lakers and Head Coach Dee Brown as an Assistant Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the start of the 2022-2023 campaign. Benson comes to Roosevelt following his two-year stint from 2020-2022 as a Graduate Manager for the Northwestern University Men’s Basketball program in the Big Ten Conference, where he assisted the coaching staff in day-to-day operations: preparing scouting edits, coordinating film exchange, on-court workouts, and various practice duties.

Benson arrived in Evanston following a four-year tenure as a student manager at Middle Tennessee State University from 2016-2020. While at MTSU, Benson was a key member of two Conference USA Championship teams under Head Coach Kermit Davis, including an NCAA Tournament victory in 2017, and served as Head Manager under Head Coach Nick McDevitt.

Throughout his young career, Benson has worked with and been instrumental in the development of several elite wings and big men in both the Big Ten and CUSA, such as the University of North Carolina’s Pete Nance, Duke University’s Ryan Young, and former CUSA Conference Players of the Year and longtime pros JaCorey Williams and Nick King.

In 2019, Benson was nominated and selected as one of 12 student managers from across the country to assist in the inaugural NCAA Basketball Academy hosted by the University of Illinois. During the academy, Benson worked with over 200 high school recruits while assisting coaches across all divisions of basketball during drills and games while handling day-to-day tasks throughout the academy.

A 2022 graduate of Northwestern University and a 2020 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, Benson earned his master’s degree in Sports Administration at Northwestern in addition to the completion of his bachelor’s degree in Leisure and Sport Management at MTSU.
