Prospective Student-Athletes & Parents Compliance Information

If you aspire to be a student-athlete at Roosevelt University, or are a parent of a child who hopes to do so, there are several things you must know about the recruiting process. Every college-bound student-athlete must be certified academically and certified as an amateur by the NCAA Eligibility Center prior to competing in Division II athletics. Prospects need to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center prior to delving into the recruiting process.

What Is The Eligibility Center?
  • The NCAA Eligibility Center is the hub of the recruiting process for prospective student-athletes looking for to compete at the Division II level. It is the NCAA-run website that houses a PSA's academic and biographical information as well as the place that signs off on a PSA's amateur status. It is free to create a profile account, but in order to be certified eligible, you must create a paid account that will certify your academic and amateur status. It costs $100 for US-based students and $160 for international students.
What Does It Mean To Be An Amateur?
  • There are some slight variations between the Division I, II and III definition of being an amateur. The NCAA supplies prospective student-athletes with this handy chart that answers the most popular questions about amateurism. However, the main reasons a PSA might jeopardize their Division II eligibility are:
    • Reaching an agreement with an agent (written, verbal or for future representation)
    • Entering into an agreement with or receiving benefits from  an agent
    • Competing on a professional team after enrolling full time at a college or university
    • Accepting more prize money than expenses for any event (event-by-event basis) after the PSA enrolls full time at a college or university.
      • Note: All post-college or university prize money received before Jan. 21, 2017, even if less than expenses, is impermissible.
What If I'm A Transfer?
  • The transfer process is different for everyone depending on your school of origin. Please make sure you discuss your decision to transfer with the compliance officer at your school and file all paperwork to enter the portal before contacting a Roosevelt coach. More transfer guidelines can be found on the NCAA website.
