Roosevelt Falls At Home Against Davenport

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS – A late penalty kick provided Roosevelt some consolation in a 3-1 loss to Davenport at Morris Field on Sunday in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.

The Lakers (0-4-2, 0-2-0 GLIAC) had the first chance of the match with Bella Perry's attempt just clearing the crossbar in the fifth minute. The Panthers scored twice in a five-minute span in the middle of the first half to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. Kaylee Sarnicola made seven saves in the match for Roosevelt as the Lakers were outshot 22-8 over the 90 minutes.

Davenport upped the pressure in the second half with six shots on target, but Sarnicola was up to the task with five stops in the final 45 minutes. Celine Blömer was in the right position after a clearing attempt bounced off a Panthers defense, but before the freshman could get to the ball, she was tripped up. Perry then calmly stepped up and hit the penalty kick over the diving keeper to bring the Lakers back within two.

UP NEXT: Roosevelt's home stand continues Friday against current No. 22 Northern Michigan at noon at Morris Field.
