MELBOURNE, Fla. – Roosevelt's spring break trip ended on a sour note Saturday after the Lakers were swept in their final two games of the week.
The opening game was a back-and-forth affair with Cedarville edging past Roosevelt 2-0. The Lakers (6-14) fell in the second game of the day to Bemidji State by a score of 8-0 in six innings.
CEDARVILLE 2, ROOSEVELT 0
Kailey Hancock came on in relief to shut down the Yellow Jackets, but the Lakers could not muster enough run support. The junior allowed just one hit and struck out three in 4.2 innings to keep the deficit at 2-0 after Cedarville scored once in the first and once more in the third.
The Lakers put the pressure on the Yellow Jackets early with Ella Dvoracek and Kendall Pearson hitting back-to-back single to start the bottom of the first. Dvoracek reached second again in the third inning after getting on base due to a fielder's choice. In the fourth inning, Rebecca Urbaniak singled to lead off the frame and eventually advanced to third before being stranded.
Pearson added her second hit of the game in the sixth with a two-out triple, and Isis Enriquez's third-inning single was the Lakers' only other hit in the game.
BEMIDJI STATE 8, ROOSEVELT 0
Catie Luzzi kept the Lakers in the game for the first four innings by allowing just two runs and three hits to keep the deficit manageable. The Beavers struck for three runs in the fifth inning then tacked on three more in the sixth for the victory.
Roosevelt had a chance in the top of the fourth inning to score runs after Kennedi Robien led off with a single. She moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt then took third on a wild pitch that also allowed Kennedy Calderon to move up to second after she walked.
Robien had two of Roosevelt's three hits in the game, adding a single in the sixth inning. Isis Enriquez had the other hit with a two-out single in the second inning.
