Watson's Career Day Not Enough For Lakers

CHICAGO — Colby Watson powered Roosevelt's offense with a career-best seven kills, but the Lakers fell in straight sets to Michigan Tech in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup at the Goodman Center on Saturday.

The freshman from Ypsilanti, Michigan hit .385 in the match to help spur the Lakers to a .200 attack as a team. Lillian Hallahan also added seven kills and Makena Wesol had six kills against her former team. McKenzie Bernard and Kaja Debelak both had four kills in the middle for Roosevelt (5-17, 2-10 GLIAC)

Merryck Brackett orchestrated the attack with 21 assists and she also added one of Roosevelt's three aces. Isa Grana had the other two aces for the Lakers while Cassie Lange led the defense with 13 digs.

The Lakers were very competitive in the first set and jumped out to a 5-1 lead against the Huskies. The set was tied at 15 when Michigan Tech went on the back-breaking 4-0 run to pull away for a 25-19 win. The Huskies won the second set 25-15 then claimed the third 25-17 despite the Lakers leading for most of the set.

UP NEXT: Roosevelt returns to action Tuesday evening in Kenosha, Wis. against Parkside to kick off a four-game road swing to end the season.
