Saginaw Valley State struck for a pair in the bottom of the fifth, but Hancock regrouped to retire three straight batters to end the inning.
The Cardinals scored three more in the bottom of the sixth before

A first-inning home run gave Saginaw Valley State an early 2-0 lead, but Roosevelt didn't have an answer for much of the first five innings. Czarnecki was able to navigate around trouble to keep the deficit at 2, getting an inning-ending double play in the second. Urbaniak took over pitching in the fourth and stranded a two-out triple in the fourth.
The Cardinals added three more runs in the fifth inning before the Lakers started to mount a comeback in the sixth.
Kendall Pearson led off the inning with a single and
Bianca Gallegos added a pinch-hit single that moved Pearson to third. A fielding error allowed Urbaniak to reach and Pearson to score then Kreykes added an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-2.
A leadoff walk came around to score for the Cardinals in the bottom of the sixth, which proved costly for the Lakers. Roosevelt kept its hopes alive in the seventh when Enriquez was hit by a pitch to start the frame. Williams and
Ella Dvoracek hit singles to load the bases and Pearson picked up an RBI groundout to move the runners to second and third. Pomele-Pen added yet another double, driving in the two runs and cutting the deficit to 6-5.
However, the Lakers could not find the hit to score Pomele-Pen, who finished 5 for 8 with three RBIs, two runs scored and three doubles in the doubleheader.
