Lakers' Season Ends With Quarterfinals Loss At Michigan Tech

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Roosevelt could not keep up with No. 20 Michigan Tech in an 84-65 loss to the Huskies in Houghton, Mich. in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday.

The eighth-seeded Lakers simplified their offensive approach and it worked as Roosevelt made nearly 47 percent of its shots. The Lakers didn't attempt a 3-pointer until less than four minutes remained in the first half, and they only shot eight in the entire game. Roosevelt won the battle in the paint 34-28 and limited Michigan Tech's second-chance points as well as points off turnovers.

Roosevelt scored the first six points of the game and stayed within striking distance for much of the first half. Michigan Tech started to pull away with an 11-2 run late in the first half, but Daniel Reed stopped the momentum with his 3-pointer and the Lakers trailed by 12 at halftime. The Huskies then went on an 11-0 run early in the second half to open up the game with a 21-point advantage.

The Lakers' top-two scorers were on point for Roosevelt with Forte Prater and Enari Thomas combining to score 45 points on 50 percent shooting from the field. Prater shot 10 of 17 and scored 21 points in what was ultimately his final college game. Thomas scored 24 points and added six rebounds as well. The rest of Roosevelt's team scored 20 points on 9 of 22 shooting.

Wednesday's loss left the Lakers at 9-20 overall for their first Division II season, including a 6-14 mark in GLIAC play.
